Learn The Guitar
Online
If you want to learn the guitar online you will
find many options available to you. It does take time and effort but the rewards can be
significant.
In the beginning, take your time to research and
try out different online guitar lessons. You will find a variety of sites dedicated to learn
the guitar online, as well as on YouTube, and various forums. Visiting guitar forums will
help you build up a list of recommended sites and get feedback from others about online
guitar courses.
Once you find a set of lessons or a course that
will teach you how learn the guitar online, think about how much time you’re willing to spend
with the guitar. The amount of time and effort you put into your lessons is up to you –
that’s the beauty of online lessons. Unlike private lessons, you can choose when to take your
lesson and how often. Nevertheless, it’s a good idea to try and set a weekly practice
routine. You can learn the guitar online and cover a few lessons a week at first, but the
bulk of your practice time should be spent working on those lessons.
Try to set a practice schedule of four or five
sessions per week. The individual sessions do not have to be that long. Fifteen to twenty
minutes each is usually enough. Make sure to focus in on your guitar lesson material during
this time. If you’re learning from guitar video lessons, review the video and master the
material the instructor is presenting. Unless the concept is truly simple, stick with the
material from that lesson for a few days. You might find your self wanting to learn the
guitar online fast and be tempted to rush through several guitar lessons in the beginning,
but try to resist this temptation. The practice habits you establish now will serve you well
when the material gets more challenging later on.
Keep your practice time fresh by mixing it up a
little every now and again. For example, you don’t have to always start your practice with
scales. You can spend the first five minutes or so simply reviewing an old song, or starting
a new one.
When you first begin to learn the guitar online,
be prepared to spend a few months learning the basics of the guitar. During this time you’ll
also want to be able to play about fifteen or so different chords from memory and you should
have a few songs down by this time as well. Remember that it does take time to build the
finger strength necessary to play the guitar. The fastest way to do this is with regular
consistent practice.
If the course you’ve chosen to learn the guitar
online introduces you to scales, try to memorize those as fast as possible. Practicing scales
is how you’ll develop strength and technique. Play them in different ways, not just for
speed. Using a metronome as you practice them will help you develop a sense of timing and
rhythm.
With any self-study program, you need to be
creative in how you get some honest feedback to your progress. The advantage of guitar course
that teaches you to learn the guitar online is that they often have forums and chats that you
can post to and read. These forums will help you understand how you’re playing as you relate
to others that are learning the guitar through the same program as
you.
Another great feature you get when you learn the
guitar online is the feedback to your playing by using the jam tracks or play-along
recordings. Whether or not you’re able to keep up with a virtual band will show you how much
you have progressed, and where you need to spend a little more time.
Most importantly, remember to enjoy the process.
Your enjoyment is what is going to bring you back to the guitar and keep you at it in the
long term.
