Learning how to play the guitar online can be a fun and rewarding way to explore music, relax and pass time. The guitar is a very popular instrument that most students can start playing almost right away. All you need is a decent guitar, a fresh set of strings, and you’re good to go!

The internet has many programs that will teach you how to play the guitar online. Search the internet for lessons on specific songs and techniques. Usually you will find songs transcribed into tablature, an intuitive way to notate guitar music. But we are getting ahead of ourselves.

Look for a diagram of the parts of the guitar. It doesn't matter if you’re playing an electric or acoustic guitar - their basic parts are the same. Next, search for a video on how to tune the guitar. You will also want an electronic guitar tuner, so find one of those online as well.

In general, you’re looking for a set of progressive lessons that cover the basics in addition to the guitar’s parts and how to tune it. Look for guitar lessons that include how to hold the instrument itself. This is sometimes over-looked in online guitar lessons, but it is important nonetheless. Finding a comfortable playing position that allows both hands free access to the guitar will increase your enjoyment and general progress.
